Illustration Friday: "Robot"

Wind me up for here I go
Shake the bell and then you'll know
In my head are gears and springs
Pushing me to do these things

Along the way I lost control
Move about, but have no soul
Pick me up and turn the key
That is all that I can be

I've always loved odd toys, but the ones that always seem to linger up in my melon holder would more than likely be those clanging monkey toys. There's just something about the creepy cute aspect of them that makes them quite appealing, at least to me anyway. Needless to say, when I sat to come up with something for this weeks Illustration Friday topic, I couldn't help but think that these, and other similar wind - up toys were practically the forefathers of modern day robots, well that and I wanted an excuse to draw a monkey. :)

Wow! You have such a great and unique style! I love the various sketches, and the finished piece is full of "creepy cute" energy:> The colors ahve a sort of vintage carnival poster look - great choice for the subject.
